Who Provides MR

The vast majority of Mountain Rescue in England and Wales is undertaken by a network of voluntary mountain rescue teams which have been established on a local basis where the need existed. These teams are all autonomous bodies composed of unpaid volunteers who are called out when their services are required.

There are other organisations which also provide rescue services such as National Park Rangers, RAF Mountain Rescue Teams, and RAF or Royal Navy search and rescue helicopters. All of these teams and organisations work together to provide an integrated response to mountain emergencies working together both in the field and in the planning and organisation of rescues and none makes any charge.
