South Wales Search And Rescue Association

The South Wales Search and Rescue Association (SWSARA) covers the whole of South, Mid and West Wales as far as the North Wales Police border near Machynlleth and Welshpool.

The four mountain rescue teams, one cave rescue team and search dogs respond to over 100 incidents each year. From the Brecon Beacons National Park, home to some of the most spectacular and diverse landscapes in Europe including Pen y Fan, with its distinctive red table top summit (the highest old red sandstone summit in Britain), and some of the UK's most spectacular waterfalls, caves and wooded gorges; through the rural areas of the hills, valleys and farm lands; to Brecon, Bridgend and Abergavenny and the cities of Newport, Cardiff and Swansea.

Incidents vary, from the search and rescue of walkers and climbers in the mountains and wilderness of South and Mid Wales, to the searching for vulnerable missing persons including the elderly and children throughout the local communities. Teams also assist the police and ambulance service during severe weather and large scale incidents and, in 2009, they were called to assist when two aircraft collided near Bridgend.
