80 year old man falls whilst on the Coast to Coast

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was called yesterday (26th July) at 18:10 to reports of an 80 year old man who had fallen sustaining a head injury. The gentleman, from the Oxford area and who was walking the coast to coast route, slipped whilst crossing a beck in Ennerdale and was helped out of the water by his walking companion.
They had made their own way to Black Sail Youth Hostel by the time the team arrived at the youth hostel. Team members assessed the casualty and treated him for his injuries before transporting him to an NWAS land ambulance near Gillerthwaite, from where he was taken the West Cumberland Hospital at Whitehaven for further checks and treatment.
18 members of the team were involved and the rescue took just over two hours.
