Flying Start to Kendal Mountain Rescue New Wheels Appeal

Kendal Mountain Rescue Team, would like to thank Don Shore, a founder member of the Kendal based BOOTboys walking group for arranging a fundraiing event to mark his 70th Birthday.  The event raised £2710 which is a fantastic start to our New Wheels Appeal.

Don said “I am delighted that so many friends were able to help commemorate my significant birthday in such an enjoyable way. Fortunately, we have never needed to call out the Mountain Rescue Team and I hope we never will. However, it has been a comfort to know that they are there, just in case. They have done, and will continue to do, a great job in aiding those who have found themselves in difficulty on the fells. My thanks go to all who have supported me in this appeal to help KMSRT continue fulfilling their vital role.”

Chairman Dave Hughes said: “The money raised by Don and the BOOTboys will be used to replace our ageing control vehicle.  New technology like satellite broadband and digital radios is changing how we can coordinate our response to callouts and our existing vehicle was designed to be used differently.  We are hoping to raise £40,000 this year to customise a new vehicle and Don’s efforts are very welcome!  The BOOTboys have never had to call on us and we hope it stays that way, but if they, or anyone else needs our help, we are here every day and night of the year.

"I would also like to thank the people of Kendal who donated during our collection in the Town centre recently.  We raised £1350, which again will go straight into the New Wheels Appeal.”
