Derby Mountain Rescue Team was called just after 1pm on Saturday 15th April by West Midlands Ambulance service after a lady fell whilst descending Thorpe Cloud, injuring her leg. The 38 year-old lady, from Nottingham, had been walking with her family when she slipped and sustained a suspected fracture to her lower leg. Two of the rescue team volunteers were first on scene, locating the casualty on the side of Thorpe Cloud.
The Team was joined shortly afterwards by an Alstonfield First Responder, WMAS land crew, then a Helimed crew who administered pain relief. The woman was placed on a Mountain Rescue stretcher and lowered to the base of Thorpe Cloud using a rope belay. She was transferred to the Midlands Air Ambulance and flown to the Royal Derby Hospital for further treatment.
