Get Involved
There are hundreds of different ways you can raise money for Mountain Rescue but the key is to choose an event you enjoy the most. Here are a few examples of how other individuals and community groups have already organised their events – but we feel sure you'll have some ideas of your own.
Employee fundraising
Get colleagues involved in fundraising activities such as 'dress down days', five-a-side tournaments or how about managers and senior personnel being placed for bid in an Auction of Promise, to do tasks for a day?
Quiz evenings
Organise just one night or a whole series of quizzes in local pubs or social clubs. You can charge entry per person or per team and ask for prizes to be donated. Many pubs or social clubs will support you as the event will bring them extra customers.
Sponsorship with Gift Aid
Organise a sponsored event such as swimming, cycling or running – and get fit at the same time. To date, we've had someone do a sponsored swim event in their local pool the length of the channel from Dover to Calais; we've had marathon runners and coast to coast walkers; and we've had the Hard Rock Challenge. To name a few!
Raffle or auction of promises
Lots could range from two hours of dog walking, through meals in local restaurants or mowing your neighbour's lawn, to a promise to undertake some window cleaning or an offer of a taxi ride to the airport. You could charge a small entrance fee and provide drinks and snacks. Make sure you have plenty of lots to auction and persuade your local papers to encourage people to attend. Gather prizes from local shops, or unwanted birthday and Christmas presents.
Party
Hold a party, barbecue or coffee morning and organise a raffle. Everyone will have a great time with the added bonus of knowing they've made a difference. If you're feeling a bit more ambitious, a Dinner Dance or Ball could be a great way to raise funds. Negotiate with a popular local venue, allow plenty of time to organise and sell tickets, and combine the evening with an instant raffle or auction.
Sporting or fun event
If you're part of a sports club, golf club or fitness centre, you could organise a charity football match or golf day. Or does your club have one already? Organise a fun event for friends or colleagues such as a treasure hunt, Trivial Pursuit, cheese and wine, ten-pin bowling or going horse racing. The list is endless!
Car boot sale
Take unwanted items to a car boot sale – you can also ask friends, family and colleagues if they have unwanted goods they can contribute. Start collecting goods and sell them on the day.
Mountaineering oriented events
Amything from scaling the height of Everest at your local climbing centre to a sponsored walk. Use your imagination.
Sweepstake
Organise a sweepstake on a major sporting event such as the Grand National.
Employee Matching Scheme
Find out if your company has a matching scheme. Many companies will match pound for pound (up to a set amount) for employees who take part in fundraising for charity.
