July 12, 2018

On the 12th July Penrith Mountain Rescue Team was contacted by the Police to assist a 70 year old who had slipped and injured his lower leg.
The casualty was located near to Nan Bield Pass near Mardale Head, Haweswater. The team was mobilised and because of the potentially long carry out Kirkby Stephen MRT was asked to assist.
On arrival at the casualty site Team members were delighted to find Alan Hinkes (MREW ambassador) keeping the casualty company and in good spirits. Members of the Team splinted the casualty’s leg, transferred him to a stretcher and started to lower him off the hillside. Before too long Kirkby Stephen MRT arrived and helped the Team with the long carry out.
The casualty was transported to Penrith hospital to be transferred on to Carlisle later. 12 members of Penrith MRT were involved for 6 hours.
