Issue 64 Mountain Rescue Spring 2018

As the MREW Land Rover continued its tour of England and Wales, ex-RAF winchman paramedic Andy Elwood talked about coming to terms with his mental health issues, Judy Whiteside looked at the newly launched #adventuresmartwales and Sally Seed advised how best to deal with the media on ‘avoidable call-outs’. Still on safety, we were privileged to republish an article by writer, climber and philosopher Francis Sanzaro (first published in the New York Times) arguing that we should ‘keep our mountains free and dangerous’. Further updates from the 2017 Ambleside Medical conference featured David Knowles on fracture management in the field, Alison Sambrook on uncommon medical problems, Theo Weston on major incidents, Les Gordon on hypothermia and EiEi Htwe on sickle cell disease.
