The Art of Instruction:

Al Read undertook his first rescue in Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation (OVMRO) in 1981 and has been an active team member since then. He is one of the operational team leaders who manage incidents for Ogwen, but also supports North Wales Mountain Rescue Association as a member of the MR Tactical Command Cadre. Training officer for OVMRO for six years, he moved on to become regional training officer before taking on the role as MREW training officer in 2012, a post he held until 2023.

Professionally, he is a senior instructor delivering a range of specialist rescue courses including rope rescue, water and flood rescue and search management, delivering training in the UK and overseas.

‘Safe and effective training helps build the knowledge, skills and competencies of team members to provide the capability required for operations. The Art of Instruction will outline the general training development process, highlight some knowledge, skills and behaviours required for trainers, and provide a training model ideally suited to practical and scenario based training sessions.’
